Its been a while since our last contest but we got something special this time. We have 1 full boxset of the Death Magnetic coffin to giveaway as a grandprize plus 2 runnerup prizes of the regular Death Magnetic CD. The boxset includes the following items:

Death Magnetic album (CD)
Death Magnetic demo tracks (CD)
Death Magnetic behind the scenes (DVD)
Death Magnetic T-Shirt
Band poster in a coffin shape
Death Magnetic flag

Heres how you can win:

Tell us in your opinion what single Metallica song from any of the previous 8 studio albums (KIll Em All to St. Anger) best represents "DEATH" based on your own interpretations of the lyrics or the music itself. The song doesnt necessarily have to be about death, just what you think is the best song that represents death in all its context. Select only 1 song and give your reasons why you chose that song. The best or most creative answers will be selected for a limited draw and those selected will be randomly drawn out of a hat. The first pulled out will win the grand prize, and the next 2 will each win the runner-up prize.

Deadline is September 10th 2008 at 11:59PM US EST. No exceptions!

yes 2 runner ups to receive a copy of the cd, i dont know yet whether it will be the digipak with the 3D cut or just the regular CD

Maybe you should have had a "20 posts minimum" rule or something? it might encourage more people to stick around, whereas there will probably just be a heap of unused accounts at the end of this

Cool prize, good idea for a contest but at the end of the day, if it's a random draw then i think it makes the whole song analysis bit redundant because even if you'd written a top quality essay it still wouldn't give you the same chance as someone who'd written a silly limerick in the end.

Yeah, a best of the best would be pretty cool. You would then know that the best entry won.

I understand that and that's cool.

I just think that it would be better if you took the top 5 best entries and picked the best one out of those to be the winner. Then draw names out of the remaining 4 to be 2nd and 3rd. That way the best entry truly did win.

i suppose we could do that, it just makes it very hard to choose something like that and then on top of that theres always the few that would complain that the selected one wasnt the best at all...just shit like that that we dont need to deal with....i may change it for the top prize

I'd like to see everyones song interpretations too after its over, I'm going to participate in this for once, not for the box set because I ordered the vinyls, thats all i want heh. But because this contest is kind of cool. Everyone try to do a good job, i want to read some good interperatations.

I'm just going to put this out there. Would there be a problem with shipping the prize outside of the US? Ie as there's a few of us from Europe and Aus/NZ?
