Can the restrictions for pictures to be posted be lifted. It's pretty annoying when you take time to post a picture on the forum, click send, and get an error saying the limit is 500 pixels or whatever it is... this rule is retarded. There should be no restrictions for this type of material because it's the internet, internet speed shouldn't be an issue because it's 2009 and people should have decent speed for internet and people's computers should be running at a decent speed.

its not so much about peoples bandwidth and connection speed tho that is an issue people have brought up to me regarding gif files on avatars and sigs but its also the fact that people were posting pictures that would stretch out the board and basically render it unreadable or just plain fuck up the topic, so the size limit had to be put on....ive been to boards where they have unlimited pic sizes and some of it just got downright stupid to the point where you couldnt even read the fucking topic properly.....if you have a large pic just post the link to it

hey ralph, not everyone lives in the technological mecca that is the US.

Some of us still only have the slow old ADSL 1

But even then, as axl mentioned, its the dimensions, not the size that matters. And since you make a habit of posting thread titles as caps and other things people find annoying, why would we expect you to respect picture dimension restrictions as well?

What's wrong with posting in caps?

I tried to post a picture once and it was too large, if it was really an issue though I would have just re-sized it. I'd rather not have people filling up threads with stupid pictures anyway, like Axl said some of the garbage that's on other boards is downright annoying and makes the forums unreadable. Whether or not its 2009 doesn't matter, communicating through pictures is childish and trends towards poor communication skills, especially in the spelling department. We dont need this board to look like everybody's myspace pages are looking these days.
I already had to turn off signatures because several of the ones on here are ugly and distracting when I am trying to read posts. While theres nothing wrong with a normal non-flashing non-moving siggy you wont ever catch me using anything except text.

Pharmer only the northeast coast and the west coast of the united states are "technological mecca's". Where I lived in Georgia there is no high speed internet available at all except right in downtown, so you have to either use dial-up or use the highspeed at the Library (its still like that now even in 2009) if anything the lack of investment into high speed infrastructure in this country is going to render us 2nd rate within 10 years.
Canada with its massive open land (not unlike australia) has excellent internet service with faster speeds and cheaper prices than anyone in the states can offer.

no, it's the internet....
at least my non-sense creates some sort of chatter on this bored... nobody posts anything on here... I refresh the forum or check the forum multiple times a day and it's the same shit from when I last posted.. hell even in some sections of the forum the last topic to be posted in was like last month

I post a topic, people view it, a couple people post saying they laughed... blah it's done.. if more people opened up the topic and saw some form of contribution to the forum and posted then there wouldn't be a problem... but people just find it "annoying"

gonna have to agree on that one, i added extra sections on the forum because people wanted different areas for different subjects...and now that theyre there noone posts anything! i even try to create new discussions, hold contests and other stuff and noone bothers to check them or even respond to it, we even got a new contest now and theres been virtually no responses to it with only 2 entries so far....sometimes i really wonder why i bother  maybe everyone just wants it to turn to shit, and then maybe itll become active again...i just dont know what else to do, ive almost given up

gees, if you gave up with this much activity, I should just shoot HMN's forum now :D

Seriously, I'm personally happy with the amount of conversation I get to partake in, I think the board flows just fine, although people not bothering to enter the competition is disrespectful, IMO.

I think any "lack of posting", which while low in comparison to days of yore, is still pretty good for a non-official band forum, is mainly due to apathy and short attention spans more than anything else.

The regulars keep plugging away because they enjoy it, new people like godcore eventually get caught up, and we pick up a few good members, rather than a rain of shit :)

And Ralph, what is wrong with caps? it's like shouting. And just like shouting, if you do it all the time, people don't pay attention anymore. There is also the habit of your thread names not really describing what the discussion will be about, so you don't always attract your audience very well. But, that's your decision, not something that needs to be policed or modded. Just noting the trend of your posts.

I cant see the traffic flows here like Axl can but seems to me posting died down a ton when the forum moved last year. That doesnt make much sense to me because besides using different software, the format is still pretty much the same.
I enjoy this forum but i cant post any more than I do because I have a real life to take care of and it gets quite busy sometimes. I wish i could start some new topics but its definitely not my strong point so I usually dont heh. We also all bicker so much sometimes I cant respond to something because I'm not sure if it will end in a healthy debate or peoples panties being in a wad and that gets old too. Theres also several of us with very inflammatory opinions on things and we mix together like shit and strawberry shortcake. I think its great, but it doesnt lend to being a very busy forum.

its roughtly as active on this new forum as it was on the old forum before we moved, but in saying that, the old forum was more active in the beginning....i really dont know what the reasons are, we have almost 500 people that signed up from the old forum and id say about 20% of those actually post here, if that....it would be nice if people would post more often but obviously we cant force anyone to do so

axl its still an accomplishment to keep a board going with as many members as this one has, considering its not an official board. imo its much better than official boards because those attract the majority of the younger, more troll-like people that arent wanted here anyway.

Personally I think bootleg forums like JITF killed boards like this. People used to come to this forum looking for a bootleg or two to download, and then maybe look around various other parts of the forum and stay. Now however they can get any bootleg they want on a bootleg forum and don't need to pass through a forum like 4H. I guess we need something along the line of Axl's monthly bootleg to attract new members, I just don't know what.

I viewed the thread and didn't enter as I don't want the single, what's wrong with that? I don't find it disrespectful, its giving anyone that does enter a better chance of winning.

Plus I'm with Ralph on this, the restrictions are quite annoying, how often was a picture posted that stretched a page? and if it does happen then the poster can use common sense and edit their post to just show the link, or a mod can edit it, it's not as if the mods are coming down with work to do on the forum these days, jajaj

funny you say that cause i was thinking that perhaps our strict no official material policy may have caused that so they look elsewhere for all the goodies which is easily available....no disrespect to the jitf forum but its wrong what they are doing, and illegal for that matter...and thats for the most part a bootleg site whereas we are more of a general metallica site which is a bit more info related, the bootlegs part is just 1 of the things we offer...you would think contests where we give away death magnetic boxsets and other quality stuff would be incentive enough to be part of the site but i guess downloading an entire album is more important....but im not gonna compromise our integrity and sell out by just allowing everything to be available thru our site....as for the monthly bootleg, well i had to stop because i just didnt have the time to put it up every month, at least not in the way i like to do it...when i do something, i always try to make it the best it can be and not half-ass it, and people appreciated that...i had responses commenting on how much info was attached to it bootleg as well as any cover artwork, show history and other stuff....maybe someone could volunteer to pick up on that again?

more often than was necessary...and yeah you would think people would use common sense to edit the picture but they didnt, and on top of that, every response that quoted the picture in the post also stretched out the forum even further so i cut it down to a restricted size...as i said, its just as easy to just post the link to the pic or simply edit the picture down to a decent size...500 pixels is a fair size in itself as it is anyway

sorry to post on an old topic but another reason why I think the forum is less active than two three years ago is that it's not as easily found in google as it used to be. I just tried it the only way i could get this site is to type in 4horsemen website or 4 horsemen. Im pretty sure I didn't do that to find this site. orgianlly

ive increased the picture size a bit more, width restrictions are still the same but the height should be a bit more flexible now

Don't mean to butt in or anything but maybe it's an idea to look at a forum code so that large pictures are automatically rescaled to fit the board dimensions? The Wargaming forums I frequent have those and it makes everything a lot less annoying
